RESEARCH INTERESTS:

My research is focused on corneal and external disease of the eye, including ocular surface disease and dry eye disease.

Dry eye disease and lid margin disease are the most common problems encountered by ophthalmologists. With the advancing age of the population and the fact that women outlive men, the prevalence of both diseases is increasing and treatment options have been limited. My research in collaboration with Douglas Borchman, PhD has provided valuable information about both dry eye disease and lid margin disease allowing us to characterize the behavior of secretions of the lid and lacrimal glands by a variety of methods of spectroscopy. This has allowed better understanding of the disease and our ability to evaluate therapies for the clinical problem
